Costcutter Supermarkets Group (CSG) has launched a new library of category guides to help independent retailers drive sales through improved understanding of merchandising best practice.

The Merchandising Principles are designed to provide retailers with the theory behind the group’s planograms. Each guide is a companion to an equivalent category planogram which can be tailored to fit a store’s local area.

Each of the Merchandising Principles guides feature promotional guidelines for gondola ends, wine towers and floor stacks to help retailers get more from their promotional package.

Accessed via the CSG’s online information portal ActivHUB, the collection of guides are also aimed at giving retailers simple ideas to help increase basket spend and enhance customer satisfaction.

Commenting on the launch, CSG category merchandising manager Christian Mugabe said: “Following our Shopper First Programme, which provided all our retailers with their local shopper insights, we have now created Merchandising Principles to simplify and streamline the data behind our planograms to help retailers make the most of merchandising best practice, dependent on their store size, format and location.

“Ultimately, good visual merchandising makes a store stand out and attracts shoppers. Our aim has been to give retailers the tools to realise their store’s potential.”
