The Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) is to target younger people in a new campaign to raise awareness of the safe use and disposal of vapes and their batteries.
The newly released resources, available online now, aim to improve consumer safety by “reducing the risk of battery fires, injuries and environmental harm linked to unsafe vapes usage and disposal.”
The campaign seeks to raise awareness among young people about the hidden dangers associated with improper charging, damaged batteries and binning vapes, while encouraging simple, practical habits that keep them safe and support responsible recycling.
The messages include directions on how to store a used vape safely until it can be recycled, where to recycle and, perhaps more importantly, where not to.
In a social media move, the hashtags sharing the messages of the campaign are listed as #SmallHabitsBigDifference #SafeVapeDisposal #DontBinThatVape! and #BatteryFires, the OPSS has said.
