Retailers have just days to get to grips with new age discrimination legislation. The changes, due to come into force on October 1, 2006, ban age discriminiation in recruitment, promotion and training. All retirement ages below 65 will be banned and employers will be required to inform employees in writing, and at least six months in advance, of their intended retirement date.
Martin Edwards, head of employment law at Mace & Jones, said: "The changes to the discrimination law are possibly the most dramatic since the laws on sex and race discrimination were introduced
30 years ago."
