Scotmid Co-operative is set to become Conviviality Retail’s exclusive Scottish franchisee after announcing a new partnership with the Bargain Booze owners.

The two businesses plan to pilot a small number of stores in Scotland early next year, with the potential to roll out further stores across the country if the trial proves successful.

John Brodie, chief executive of Scotmid, said: “We will be working with Conviviality Retail in the coming weeks to identify the initial sites for the pilot.

“Conviviality Retail is highly regarded in their marketplace, and together we offer each other a number of exciting potential opportunities to develop and grow both our businesses.

Diana Hunter, chief executive of Conviviality Retail, added: “Conviviality Retail are the owners of the UK’s largest franchised off-license and convenience chain with over 600 franchised operated stores in England and Wales, operating predominantly under the Bargain Booze, Bargain Booze Select Convenience and Wine Rack brands.

“Scotmid’s excellence in retail management, property and local distribution together with our unique brand and trading experience creates a compelling customer proposition and allows us to expand geographically into Scotland.”
