Three teenagers have been jailed for 18 months each for two attacks on Bristol retailers.

Twins Luke and Justin Lovedale and Nicholas Gardener assaulted Ashok Selvam in June of this year after he refused to serve them alcohol in his Bargain Booze store. The youths pulled his t-shirt over his head and repeatedly punched him in the face. Throughout the attack they racially abused Ashok.

The trio were also involved in another attack later that evening where they brutally assaulted Parakam Zala and Girish Patel in their Costcutter store. Both retailers were punched and kicked by the youths who screamed racial abuse at them. The attack left Girish with severe facial and eye injuries.

Throughout the trial the three youths laughed and joked as CCTV footage of the attacks was shown. When sentencing the offenders, District Judge David Parsons said that they youths “revelled” in their crimes.

“Yours was a cowardly attack where as a group you overwhelmed your victims, targeting them on the basis of their ethnicity,” he said.

The youths have also been given a 30-month anti-social behaviour order banning them from entering the Southville and Bedminster areas of Bristol.
