Small firms using the government's Business Link service have benefited in real economic terms, according to the results of a new survey.
A study of more than 3,000 small businesses showed that those that used the service enjoyed greater growth than those that hadn't.
The research involved questioning around 3,000 businesses: 2,000 that had received assistance from Business Link and 1,000 that had not. The study found that for every £1 spent in government funding, Business Link achieved £2.26 of additional value to the economy as a result of better business performance.
Recently-appointed minister for small business Stephen Timms said: "We will continue to grow the Business Link service, making it the definitive place for small businesses to find support."
