Snappy Shopper has teamed up with food redistribution business Gander, to become the first delivery app to offer reduce to clear items for home delivery.

In a 12-week pilot scheme at two CJ Lang stores in Scotland, the two businesses will team up, with a view to rolling it out to other Snappy Shopper partnered stores.

It is hoped that the partnership will help reduce the 600,000 tonnes of food and drink waste ends up in landfill each year in Scotland alone

Snappy Shopper founder and chief executive officer Mike Callachan welcomed the partnership. “Our partnership with Gander to offer reduced to clear items to Snappy Shopper users is something we are incredibly excited about. Not only is this a first-of-its-kind feature, but it enables our retailers to reduce their wastage, meaning they can improve their margins while also supporting their local community as well as having a huge impact on the environment. We are so excited to see the results it has for both our retailers and customers.”

Head of business development at Gander Stacey Williams said: “At Gander, we are passionate about finding solutions that reduce food waste while creating value for our customers. It is a huge milestone for retail that reduced to clear food can now be sold on a delivery app, giving consumers the power to make sustainable and cost-saving choices from the comfort of their homes. We are delighted to partner with Snappy Shopper, SPAR Scotland, and Retail Solutions to make this revolutionary retail concept a reality. “
