With concerns over health and wellbeing still front of mind for consumers, the launch of new products which boast high juice content and lower fat contents will be no less frenetic this summer.

Häagen-Dazs is wading into the fray with a new range of ice cream smoothies later this month. Mango & apricot and raspberry & summer berries Ice Cream Smoothies will be available in 500ml packs, and will spearhead this year's Häagen-Dazs summer range.

Fredericks Dairy is also launching a new Del Monte Superfruits Smoothie to complement its successful mango and raspberry variants. With just 86 calories, the new blueberry, pomegranate and cranberry stick is being positioned as a great way for consumers to "lick themselves into shape for 2009".

Health also remains a key driver in the children's ice cream category, where additives - and more importantly, a lack of them - is a top priority.

New for 2009 is Rowntrees Fruit Screamers, available as a mixed pack of five within impulse. The mini ice lollies contain 20% real fruit juice in strawberry, orange, lemon, lime and pineapple flavours. With no artificial colours or flavours the lollies also follow the trend for portion control.
