I was a microbiologist, but when my husband and I started a family we decided to take on something I could do and look after the family as well. It was tough, but we did it.
What do you like most about being a retailer?
The local people, because they are just like family. And you work for yourself.
What do you hate?
The long hours. But there's nothing I can do about that - I can do more, but not less!
What's the best advice anybody has given you?
We know a lot of people in
this business who have retired and who say don't carry on working right up until you retire, because you don't know what you've been missing. By the time you retire your body is too tired to do what you want to do. But we don't know about that yet!
What's good about the location of your shop?
It's in a residential area and it's just like a family. We are always discovered by all the local families, not just in Southborough but from Tunbridge Wells and other places, too.
Who is you best customer?
We've got an equal amount of old and young, men and women customers - they're all good.
What would you have done if you hadn't gone into the business?
I would have carried on with microbiology.
If you had your time over, would you do anything differently?
I think I would still work for myself.
