Spar is trialling a new initiative in Scotland aimed at assuring 100% availability at all times for a range of 100 selected and advertised products.

The new Essentials range, which is being trialled for six months in 15 stores owned by wholesaler CJ Lang, has been drawn up to contain items which the company believes customers would buy in a midweek visit to a supermarket, including baby food, cereals, household products, plus fresh and frozen foods.

Spar Scotland marketing controller Philippe Rondepierre said: “Availability remains one of the biggest challenges for food retailers of all sizes. Shoppers tell us we are already good at providing crisps, confectionery, soft drinks, beers and wines. Spar is now willing to prove to customers that there is no need to visit the supermarket for top up shopping.”

A comprehensive point-of-sale pack supports the initiative which, if successful, will be rolled out across all Spar stores in Scotland.
