Spar has teamed up with the Women's Institute (WI) to launch a search for Devon's finest local produce.
The produce will be trialled at the Bampton Spar store in the county as part of the New Economics Foundation's community research project, Living Local.
Spar and the WI will work closely with local residents and businesses and run initiatives including questionnaires and surveys, in-store activity and community meetings.
The conclusions of the project will be shared with other Spar stores and WI networks across the UK.
Spar spokesman John Wood said: "At a time when local communities and their local shops are under threat from the rise of supermarkets, this project aims to uncover just how vital local stores are to the community. As part of the research we are asking people to tell us about great local produce that could be trialled in Bampton Spar, by registering their nominations at the store."
