National Independents' Day (NID) organisers will meet in July to discuss future developments for the My Shop is Your Shop (MSYS) campaign after the success of this year's activities.
The Federation of Wholesale Distributors' (FWD) PR action group will look at ways in which the campaign can move forward with further events to provide momentum through to 2007.
This year's NID has been hailed as a massive success by organisers with an estimated 35,000 retailers involved in some way. A further 4,000 retailers made use of special NID packs containing t-shirts, caps, stickers and posters.
MSYS chairman Alan Toft is adamant that, although NID is the centrepiece of the MSYS campaign, it should not be treated as a one-off day each year.
He told C-Store: "This year's NID was beyond all expectations but we need to ensure the campaign moves on. The FWD PR action group is going to meet again in July to discuss ideas for the future, and we will develop a momentum strategy in order to keep the ball rolling.
"We've had some very good feedback and a number of independent retailers have approached us to show their support for developing fresh ideas and a strategy to move forward."
