UK payments association, Apacs, has issued a new security guide for Chip and PIN retailers.
The guide, which can be downloaded free from www.apacs.org.uk, provides useful facts, statistics and tips on how retailers can keep their equipment, staff and customers safe from fraudsters.
The first UK Chip and PIN transaction took place in May 2003. Today, more than 900,000 shop tills have upgraded to the system and more than 185 transactions take place every second.
Apacs director of communications Sandra Quinn said: "Simple measures such as training staff to be aware of potential fraud threats and common fraud techniques will significantly reduce the chances of businesses falling victim to fraud, or indeed being targeted by fraudsters. The UK is leading the way in identifying and developing technology to address card-related fraud and we are fully committed to tackling card fraud in all its guises."
