Retailers, trade associations and supermarket groups have submitted their evidence for the All Party Parliamentary Group for Small Shops’ investigation into high street retailing.

The next stage of the enquiry will see individuals and groups being called to present their views and answer questions from a committee of MPs. Hearings are expected to start in mid-October and run for a month, with the final report expected by the end of the year. The inquiry was set up to address public concerns about creeping centralisation in local retailing.

The group has no specific statutory powers but can make recommendations to MPs and the competition authorities.
