Three teenagers have been arrested following a violent robbery in a Brighton convenience store, in which a store worker was injured, police have revealed.
The incident happened at the Lower Bevendean store and Post Office in Bevendean at around 7.25pm on 16 January.
Three masked suspects, are all described as white men aged between 18 and 20, stole cigarettes and a quantity of cash, while a 35-year-old store worker was punched in the face and stabbed in the leg multiple times. He was treated at hospital for his injuries.
According to Sussex Police, a 16-year-old boy from Croydon has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and grievous bodily harm with intent, while a 16-year-old boy from Mottingham, London, and a 16-year-old girl from Hove have been arrested on suspicion of robbery and suspicion of conspiracy to commit robbery. All have been released on bail.
Detective Constable, Scarlett Millar, said: “Thanks to the information provided by diligent members of the public we have been able to extensively progress this investigation. We are still urging anyone with any further information on the robbery to come forward and make contact with us.”
Home Office minister Victoria Atkins recently proposed a package of measures to help tackle violent retail crime against retail staff, calling for evidence on violence and abuse towards shop workers; funding to raise awareness of existing legislation in place to protect shop workers; and refreshing the work of the National Retail Crime Steering Group to focus exclusively on violence and abuse.
