Nearly £900,000 was provided to families as part of the School Essentials Grant from GroceryAid.

Under the scheme, eligible parents receive £150 per school-aged child up to a maximum of three children per household. This year, a total of £888,900 was granted to families in need this year, a 36% increase compared to last year’s School Essentials Grant, enabling 5,926 children to return to school with the correct uniform and equipment.

Mandi Leonard, welfare director at GroceryAid said: “This year’s School Essentials Grant has been the largest fund awarded since it launched four years ago. We are delighted to be able to help so many more families at a time when they need it the most.”

Those working in the retail industry and experiencing financial difficulties can still apply for a GroceryAid Cost of Living Grant, if they have been employed in the sector for at least six months and meet eligibility criteria.
