GroceryAid Ball 2023

The annual GroceryAid Ball has raised £810,000 to help support those struggling in the industry.

This year’s GroceryAid Ball saw more than 1,200 guests, including senior commercial and trading teams, from nearly 170 companies, gather at the JW Marriot Grosvenor House in London to support the industry charity.

The money raised will enable the charity to continue helping colleagues in need 24/7, 365 days a year with emotional, financial and practical support.

Earlier this week, GroceryAid today announced the appointment of Mark Williamson as interim chief executive following Steve Barnes’ decision to step down after six years.

Williamson will take up the role with immediate effect. In his 35 years in the industry, he has held multiple senior leadership positions at Waitrose and Sainsbury’s, and up until 2017, sat on Waitrose’s Management Board for 10 years as commercial director. He has sat on the Board of Trustees since 2016 however will step back from his role as a Trustee until a permanent replacement is appointed. The Board of Trustees, chaired by Ruston Smith, has begun the process of recruiting for a permanent Chief Executive, which is expected to conclude over the coming months.
