From my experience as a regular user of the local store in Tunbridge Wells High St, I'm not in the slightest surprised that the Company is struggling.
On 6 occasions this year I have had problems of failed newspaper deliveries - and an equal number of erroneous invoices, which consumed a great deal of time and persistence to resolve.
Recently, service was so slow that the queue for the counter was such that customers were actually outside in the street.
To crown it all, on a weekday last week, customers arriving at the store during normal working hours were confronted with a sign that said "Owing to circustances beyond our control, this store will not open today".
Everyone of these sorts of incidents is a perfect example of what NOT to do if you wish to increase foot-fall.
All of these problems are explained by the Store Manager as "staff shortages":no doubt that may be true - but any regular customer can see that it is also a problem of high turnover. Which of course begs the questions of poor selection/poor training/poor motivation and ina dequte pay.
