British confectionery manufacturer Swizzels has given its iconic Love Hearts sweets a digital makeover with its new limited edition emoji-themed packs.

The iconic brand, famous for featuring over 150 romantic messages, has introduced the nation’s favourite emojis into its traditional packs.

As emojis become a globally-recognised way of communicating, the 11 new emoji additions will be making Love Hearts history. The brand has been making Love Hearts since 1954 and now produces 1.75 billion Love Hearts every year.

Confectionery manufacturer, Swizzels, carried out research into the most commonly used emojis to ensure the most popular expressions were put into production and printed onto Love Hearts.

Swizzels is the fastest growing sugar confectionery manufacturer in the UK with sales up 17% YOY (IRI Total MarketPlace Value Data 52 weeks to 10.09.17).

Mark Walker, sales director at Swizzels, said: “The way in which we communicate has changed over recent years and we felt that now was the perfect time for us to introduce more modern ways for people to share the love. Our Love Hearts roll is Swizzels’ overall bestselling countline (Swizzels ex-factory value sales 12 months) and by adding in these new emoji-themed sweets to our more traditional messages, we are ensuring Love Hearts continue to appeal to a wide audience, driving sales even further.

The limited edition Love Hearts are available in 24 count shelf ready packs (rrp 30p per roll).

The activity is also being supported by a comprehensive on-pack and digital campaign. The #ShareTheLove campaign is encouraging consumers to purchase the sweets and share the love in more unique ways and post on social media.
