Stroud district council in Gloucestershire has launched a Shop Local campaign to boost trade in local stores.
Canvas shopping bags have been produced to hand out to shoppers in the towns of Stroud, Stonehouse, Dursley and Wotton-under-Edge. The bags carry the Shop Local emblem on one side and the town's own symbol on the other.
Sue Evans, manager of Kingswood Stores near Wotton-under-Edge, said: "It's a wonderful idea and a good way to get the message across to locals. People are often surprised by how much they can buy in our store. It should help people realise they don't always have to travel five miles to the nearest supermarket."
