Energy supplier SSE is to stop cold calling business customers. From immediate effect, it will no longer make unsolicited calls to business owners encouraging them to sign up to SSE.

Will Morris, group managing director for retail at SSE, said: “Cold calling is not something that a company like SSE - committed to providing an excellent customer experience - should be doing any longer.

“This decision to end unsolicited calls is part of becoming that company and demonstrates that we are dedicated to delivering what customers want.”

The move will result in 100 SSE employees losing their posts however SSE is attempting to redeploy them “wherever possible”.

Earlier this month, SSE announced a phasing out of automatic rollover contracts for its business customers with 10 or less employees by April 2014.

It will no longer offer rollover contracts for any of their business customers that use less than 100,000 units of electricity or less than 293,000 kWh of gas per year. They will also stop rollover contracts for businesses that have an annual turnover of less than £1,700,000.
