One of Spar’s most respected retailers, Stan Moore, sadly passed away on Saturday June 29.

Stan was a pioneer of the Spar convenience concept at his Westway store in Stafford and was an ambassador for Spar on a local, national and international level over the past 30 years.

Stan spent his entire career in food retailing and was the first independent retailer in the country to introduce in-store scanning and also led the way with extended trading hours, converting to Eight Till Late at its initial inception.

In 2005 he won a Lifetime Achievement Award at C-Store’s Top Shop Awards, now known as the Convenience Retail Awards.

“Stan will be greatly missed by friends and colleagues across A.F. Blakemore and Spar and our thoughts are with Stan’s family, Karen and Steve, during this difficult time,” a Spar spokeswoman said.

The funeral has been arranged for Thursday July 11 at 2pm.
