Retailers have been urged to give their opinions on crime to their local Police and Crime Commissioners (PCC) to ensure they prioritise retail crime.

As part of the PCC role, a Police and Crime Plan has to be created for the next five years which details local priorities for their term of office. It is open to public consultation.

Amit Patel of Belvedere News in Kent said he would be making a submission to the consultation, and urged others to do the same. “We need as many retailers as possible to complete the online form so that our concerns can be taken into account,” said Amit.

Association of Convenience Stores chief executive James Lowman called on all retailers to get involved. “It’s important that retailers take the time to highlight crime affecting their business in an attempt to influence police and crime plans,” he said. “However, retailers shouldn’t underestimate the value of a good relationship with their neighbourhood policing team. This is the greatest tool in protecting against crime.”

Submissions can be made through your local PCC’s website. Go to www.choosemypcc.org.uk to find out who your PCC is.
