A retailer was left fighting for his life after being shot in the face in what is believed to be a gang-related incident.

The shooting took place at Stockwell Food & Wine on the Stockwell Road in Lambeth, London on Tuesday evening (March 29).

According to witness reports, three youths on bicycles pulled up outside the store and one of them opened fire. A five-year-old girl who was in the store at the time was also shot in the chest. Both the retailer and the child were taken to a South London hospital and are described as being in a critical but stable condition.

Metropolitan Police believe that the retailer and the small child were not the intended targets. Witnesses say that two other youths ran into the shop shortly before the incident took place and police believe that these were the gunman’s targets. After the shooting, the two youths in the store fled the scene.
