Two Budgens stores in North London have introduced a ‘recycle-at-the-till’ scheme for customers to dispose of unnecessary packaging.
The stores, in Belsize Park and Crouch End, have bins by the tills so customers who object to over-packaged products can leave plastic, cardboard and other materials behind for recycling.
Store owner Andrew Thornton said he was happy with the results so far. He added that while Budgens would recycle material from the bins, if a particular product’s packaging was repeatedly left it would be returned to the manufacturer.
