C-store retailers are to get help maximising their store’s potential with the launch of two online support packages.

The Retail Enterprise Network (REN) has developed an online package called Retail Detail to give retailers advice and solutions on everything from legislative changes to in-store merchandising. As well as practical hints and tips for retail situations, the package allows users to be part of an online network of local retailers, with the ability to discuss local issues without leaving the store.

The package can be purchased supporting up to 10 members of staff for an annual subscription of £95+VAT. The National Federation of Retail Newsagents and wholesale group Sugro have already signed up to the new package, launching their own tailored variants, while the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) is soon to introduce its own bespoke package.

NFRN member Abdul Qadar, who has been trialling the site in his Edinburgh store, said: “I have found the site very informative, and so have my staff. I’ve have already picked up some great ideas for my window displays.” Spar has developed its own on-line business information service, the Virtual Academy, to provide a 24-hour resource, which can answer all retailers’ enquiries concerning legislation and regulation, plus give advice on staff training, customer service and marketing.

Spar managing director Jerry Marwood said: “The Virtual Academy provides every Spar member with a vast library of information that is continually being developed to help their business make more profit.”
