Nisa’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity has now donated £2.75m to national and local charities since it was established in 2008.

It recently donated £175,000 to seven national charities, with each receiving £25,000, taking the total contribution to national organisations to £1.18m. In addition, independent Nisa retailers have donated a total of £1.35m to local charities of their choice. Nisa also makes a number of donations each year to local causes that are nominated by staff at its head office in Scunthorpe.

The recent national recipients are Action For Children, Marie Cure Cancer Care, Children in Need, Children with Cancer UK, Macmillan Cancer Support, When You Wish Upon A Star, and Age UK.

MADL works with suppliers to enable retailers to raise money in store through the sale of participating products, with up to 5p being allocated to the retailer’s fund every time a product is purchased.

John Sharpe, MADL board member, said: “Since it was first established, Making A Difference Locally has donated significant amounts of money to local, regional and national charities or good causes to help make a difference to many people across the UK.

“The charity encourages participating stores to embed themselves within their communities by making donations to local good causes. These £25,000 donations will hugely benefit a number of very worthy causes, helping so many people that rely on their services.”

Gemma Stothard, Children in Need regional officer for the North East, said: “BBC Children in Need is extremely grateful to everyone at Making A Difference Locally who have done such a fantastic job of making this contribution. Every penny goes towards disadvantaged children and young people and every penny makes a difference.”
