The Henderson Group, Spar’s wholesaler for Northern Ireland, has announced an increased wholesale turnover of 16% over the past 12 months.

Speaking at the Spar Ulster Guild conference in Barcelona, Henderson sales director Paddy Doody told delegates that the company was on target to show an increase in retail sales from £288m for 2004 to £308m in 2005, while the number of retail outlets serviced by Henderson’s had risen from 262 to 288.

Despite expecting a further increase in store numbers, Doody warned that compliance from retailers to promotional programmes was still a big problem. He said: “The biggest challenge facing us is to put the customer at the centre of everything we do. We must achieve greater compliance and be seen to deliver margin, value and service.”
