Anti-supermarket campaigners behind the Tescopoly website have visited the Competition Commission as part of its formal investigation into the grocery channel.
The group presented its views in the same week that Tesco reported a 19.7% leap in pre-tax profits for the first half of the year, to £1.09bn.
Norwich retailer Nigel Dowdney was one of the campaigners to speak on behalf of the group. After the meeting he said: "We managed to get our views across and I feel that we were listened to fairly."
Meanwhile, the Rural Shops Alliance has joined with the National Federation of Retail Newsagents, the Local Works campaign and Booker in calling for the introduction of a grocery industry regulator. The trade bodies are backing the concept with a written submission to the Competition Commission.
