More than one third of British workers who face customers have been verbally abused while at work, according to new figures.

The research, carried out by City & Guilds and based on a sample of 2,058 UK workers, showed one in six workers had been threatened by customers, 37% verbally abused and 7% physically abused by a member of the public.

Workers feel abusive behaviour is on the increase, with 64% believing that incidents of abuse have escalated over the past two years.
