Last November I reported that my regular correspondent Hitendra Patel had disputed his escalating bill with SSC. Obviously, he only switched on the understanding that his bill would go down. Why else switch?
His bills kept going up and he kept on disputing. Finally, they agreed to visit his Costcutter in Harold Hill, East London, and read the smart meter which had been installed in his basement - which they had been unable to read remotely owing to lack of signal.
And now, happy to report, his bill is stable. It took a few months of convincing the guys that they had to come out and read the meter, but eventually the bill went in the right direction: down.
