When most people hear themselves on tape they go, ‘No! Do I sound like that?’ But when Graham Fowle, from Whimple Stores in Whimple, Devon, heard a recording of himself supposedly agreeing to a contract for Opus Energy supplies, he knew full well it had been doctored. The natural pauses were missing and his dogs were barking at one point and then suddenly silent.
Not only does Graham never agree to a verbal contract over the phone (his tip, always ask for it in writing first), but he’d used Opus Energy before and didn’t want to ever again.
He had just switched to Eon, which is apparently now untangling the mess, and offered him an even better price as a consequence. Graham thinks that both companies used the same broker which was how there became enough interesting material to be spliced into a story other than the one Graham tells.
