The very last thing you expect when you build a new store and install remote refrigeration is to have the motors stolen. This is what happened to Arul Masilamany when he opened a new store in Chigwell in Essex.

Arul had taken out buildings insurance, but when the chillers' motors got pinched the insurance company said uh, uh, it's outside so it's not covered.

It's premises, argued Arul, but the company is not playing ball. It has now cost him £31,000 to re-install the motors.

This was probably not an ordinary theft. It would take several men to lift each of the eight stolen motors, and Arul suspects an 'inside job', ie one of the various sub-contractors involved in the installation.

However, the insurance company told him that there wouldn't be a policy anywhere to cover for this. Anyone know otherwise?
