Kumud Patel was out when the environmental health officer (EHO) paid a visit and was dismayed when staff told her that the EHO would like to see the training certificate for food hygiene as the store has a Country Choice Bake ’n’ Bite bake-off unit, where baguettes and pies are cooked from frozen. It did cross Kumud’s mind that the local authority’s £50 course was probably what the EHO had in mind.
I can’t see that this bit of paper is required just to sell bake-off sausage rolls, and neither can Country Choice. A spokesman for the company says that retailers get a manual with the bake-off unit and most EHOs are happy with that. Country Choice has also offered to help Kumud if there are further enquiries from the local authority.
