Here's a tip from Tony Harris, a postmaster in Chippenham. Rano Patel, featured in my last column, said that from now on she would send her News International vouchers by recorded delivery to ensure she got credited for them.

Not the best idea, says Tony. "Recorded delivery only gives you £39-worth of insurance if it goes missing and we have at least one recorded a year that goes missing here."

Recorded delivery, you see, goes by ordinary mail.

He adds that it is better to go for 'special' (next day) delivery which gets hands-on treatment from start to finish. "Although it costs more, it gives you up to £2,500 cover."
