Tesco has risked the wrath of transport officials, green campaigners, local residents and historians in Wiltshire, after revealing plans to build a 21-acre depot on a greenfield site near Stonehenge.
At more than 85,000sq m, the warehouse would be one of the largest buildings in Europe -bigger than Heathrow's Terminal Five and higher than four double-decker buses.
If the plans go ahead, it is estimated that one Tesco juggernaut would roll in or out of the 'MegaShed' every minute of every hour, every day of the year. Opponents say that suppliers bringing in goods will create as much heavy goods traffic again.
Tesco confirmed the plan, and added that the scheme would include an offer to upgrade junctions on the A303.
