If your customers decide that they want to enjoy some snacks and treats along with their DVD, then there are plenty of options available for retailers.

According to Nielsen, bagged snacks have grown 4% in the convenience store channel, with sales of sharing size packs up 9%.

“Snacks is an increasingly key category for convenience retailers, and in particular large sharing options, as socialising at home becomes more frequent in the current economic climate,” says Procter & Gamble trade communications manager Paul Lettice. “As consumers continue to trade nights out for staying in, ‘treating’ yourself with food and drink is even more of a focus.”

Lettice advises retailers not to limit themselves to one display when it comes to snacks. “Secondary sitings of ‘night in’ products such as snacks, soft drinks and confectionery can help to boost sales and overall basket spend,” he points out.

Pringles has recently unveiled two new additions to its Xtreme flavours range - spicy sour cream & onion and hot paprika & smokey bacon. It has also released limited edition seasonal flavours Christmas turkey and pigs in blankets.
