Spar retailer Ram Sundavadra’s store was awarded £10k for its excellent National Lottery presentaton.

Allwyn, operator of The National Lottery, has recognised 11 retailers from across the UK through its latest Site, Stock, Sell quarterly prize draw, awarding a total of £21,000 to stores that “consistently deliver excellent National Lottery instore standards,” it said.

The top prize of £10,000 was awarded to retailer Ram Sundavadra, who runs a Spar in Durham, while a further ten retailers each received £1,000 for achieving high scores within the programme.

The Site, Stock, Sell initiative evaluates key National Lottery POS features, including Playstations, Scratchcard dispensers and signage, with retailers uploading images through the National Lottery Retailer Hub each month to receive a score out of ten and automatic entry into the quarterly draw.

Winner Ram and his wife Raju have been retail store owners since 1989. In that time, they have always been very active in their community supporting the church, local schools and other initiatives with fundraising events and giveaways.

Ram said: “I still can’t quite believe we’ve won. My wife has a special birthday approaching and this will help us take a memorable holiday together.

“The National Lottery is an important part of the service I provide as a convenience store, and the Retailer Hub rewards programme is a real incentive to keep our standards high. My only question now is whether I’m still allowed to enter again!”

Karl Southworth, head of field Sales at Allwyn, added: “In answer to Ram’s question, yes of course he can enter again. I know Ram and Raju are pillars of their local community and it’s fantastic to see retail partners like them rewarded because they are the backbone of The National Lottery.

The list of £1,000 winners also included Mubashar Mansoor of Village Newsagent, Gorebridge, Kamalakgannan Kanagaratnam of Premier Abi in Southend-on-Sea, Elaine and Michael McCosh of Spar, Ballymena, Kushminder Kaur Chaudry of Pyle Store in Bridgend and Emad and Momtaj Uddin of Premier Anvil Convenience Store in Manchester.
