Spar’s international format for larger stores, Eurospar, has been introduced to Wales and the South West of England.

Conrad Davies, whose family own two stores in Pwhelli, North wales, has doubled his estate with new stores in Blaenau Ffestiniog and Dolgellau, the first in Wales to operate under the Eurospar fascia and the first in the UK to be independently owned. Both are over 5,000sq ft and have a stong emphasis on fresh and local produce.

Appleby Westward Group Ltd, the regional distribution company for Spar in the South West, has created a company-owned and operated stores division and will convert three former Somerfield stores to the Eurospar brand.

The stores in Keynsham, Liskeard and Minehead were acquired from the Co-operative Group Ltd for an undisclosed sum.
The larger Eurospar format is the most common store concept within the Spar estate in Europe, but is relatively new to the UK.

The Henderson Group in Northern Ireland operates 18 of its larger stores under the fascia, and wholesaler A.F. Blakemore & Son recently opened two company-owned Europspar stores in Sheffield and Nottingham.
