While the peanut butter market has evolved with different flavours, younger brands and often stripped back ingredient lists, the same cannot be said of preserves.

To counter this, new brand Messyface is described as a fresh take on the traditional Turkish Tahin Pekmez - a cleaner, smoother and “more spoonable” Mediterranean classic made from just two ingredients - slow-cooked grape molasses and nut-flavoured tahini made from roasted sesame seeds.

Founder Alex Epstein first discovered Tahin Pekmez in a small Turkish deli in the Netherlands, and was instantly hooked. “I loved the simple transparency of the recipe, the fact it was a fibre-rich product with authentic heritage that offered natural fruit sweetness without resorting to any refined sugars, palm oil or synthetic stabilisers, sweeteners and thickeners.

“My vision was to spread the ‘tahini joy’ by championing it within a more mainstream medium that could be utilised on bread, in porridge, within smoothies or across any number of home baked offerings.”

It’s also hoped the new product will tap into two major predicted food trends for 2026 - fibre-rich products and more simply sweetened products that reject refined sugars.

The 300ml jars carry an RRP £4.50 each.
