Country Choice ambient sausage roll concept

Country Choice has launched a simple, high impact ambient sausage roll concept as part of its Bake & Bite brand.

The new concept will help convenience retailers boost their food to go sales via the ever-popular sausage roll category, it said.

The sausage rolls are made with seasoned pork sausage meat wrapped in a golden puff pastry, and have been specially developed so they can be displayed for up to 12 hours at room temperature without compromising on taste or quality. The long shelf life gives retailers far greater flexibility when compared to hot food to go products that tend to have a maximum holding time of four hours.

Retailers simply bake the sausage rolls as normal, allow them to cool for two hours, then place them in a film-fronted bag. From there, they can be displayed in either the Bake & Bite branded countertop or freestanding merchandising unit supplied free of charge.

The compact, mobile dumpbins can easily be placed in high-footfall locations in store – from till points to grab-and-go areas – encouraging shoppers to pick up a pack alongside their other purchases.

By removing the need for hot-holding equipment, and constant replenishment, the concept saves the retailer on time, labour, and energy, whilst simultaneously creating new merchandising possibilities for those for whom hot-holding is not a practical option. With an RRP of 4 for £3 and no VAT payable on ambient products, the profit potential is compelling, Country Choice said.
