The team behind the award-winning Spar Village Stores in Walthamstow, East London, are hoping to cue up more success when their second store opens later this year.

The 2011 Convenience Retailers of the Year, and Bacon Jam creators, have been given planning permission to open a second store at the former Brooksbys Snooker Hall in Hackney. The hall has not been in use for more than two years.

Co-owner James Brundle said the team were looking to create a unique offering for the Hackney area that he believed would fit in well. “We’re still in the early stages of planning, but we hope work will be begin in September,” said James. “We want to have something completely different to the rest of the area and have a premium offering.”

The team plan to have a store and restaurant offering similar to its Walthamstow site, where it operates the Eat17 eaterie, and convert the first-floor into a cinema that would show mainstream and independent films.

In a letter to Hackney residents outling their initial plans, James and the team said they hoped to employ local people and promote local produce.
