Nisa and Spar have both announced they are launching new own brand ’meal for tonight’ ranges in a bid to tap into the growing consumer trend towards quality ingredients and provenance.

Nisa Retail is launching its first range of own label fresh fish as part of its Heritage product range. Four new lines are available in stores now including Salmon Fillets, Salmon Fillets with Sweet Chilli, Scottish Smoked Salmon and Kiln Roast Salmon Flakes.

Nisa trading controller Ben Purvis commented: “We are delighted to launch our first ever Heritage fresh fish lines which we hope will deliver an uplift in sales and basket spend for our members whilst providing consumers with a versatile, simple and nutritious meal solution from their local convenience store.

“These Heritage salmon products are sourced from specially selected farms to ensure traceability and provenance and have been cured using premium ingredients and maturation processes, ensuring a real quality product and taste.”

Spar UK is looking to attract new customers with a new range of premium ready meals, including Fish Pie, Lasagne Al Forno and Cottage Pie, which will be available from 5 October. All three lines have an rrp of £4, and will be promoted at two for £7.

As part of its wider revamp to its evening meals range this autumn, Spar is also introducing two new pricemarked roast dinner meals: Chicken Roast Dinner and Beef Roast Dinner (pmp £3.50).

Spar’s pizza range has also been revamped to include two new stuffed crust pizzas in pricemarked packs: Jerk Chicken and Cheese Feast (pmp £3.50).

Cath McIlwham, head of brand at Spar UK, said: “Our new premium ready meals are the three most popular flavours in the market. We are confident that their great quality is set to appeal both to new customers and to existing shoppers as a treat.”

The launch of the new Spar premium ready meal range will be supported by marketing activity, including Spar Radio, POS, social media and website promotion.
