Ian Taylor writes from Portgordon Stores, Buckie, on the Moray Firth, on the subject of Christmas sales. With the extra Sunday, Monday in the run-up he did well.
His trading had been down 10% year on year due to a new Tesco opening in the village three miles away. “But on Christmas week we were up 3% and new year week up 7%. This continued in the first two weeks of January where we were 10% up.”
May the rotten weather continue the trend!
He also sends an alert that people posing as Ukash continue their attempts to con retailers. The store had two phone calls from a female asking staff to note the details of a transaction error that need to be fixed by entering a new transaction via Ukash.
“Both incidents were reported to PayPoint, which alerted other retailers,” says Ian.
