I am not questioning the Retail economics survey but it’s a matter of interpretation. I believe that it will not make any difference in the overall spending by the consumers as deflation over the last 5 years has decimated our cash margin and the customers have been laughing all the way to the bank whilst we in the convenience sector are way behind the curve in keeping up with rising costs. Strange it may sound but I welcome the inflation that is badly needed in our sector to protect our cash margin and at least go some way towards making up for the dramatic rise in costs coming our way, namely rate rise, pension requirement and the living wage to name the three. It’s about time the customers paid reasonable price for bread and milk which is cheaper the water!!!
