Police Scotland are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at a McColl’s store in Ayrshire.

Met Police

The incident happened at the convenience store on Content Street in the town of Ayr at around 6:15am on 10 September.

According to police, a man entered the store armed with a knife demanding money and threatened a store worker.

The offender is described as white, of slim build and wearing a dark baseball cap, dark jacket with white stripes on the cuff, dark jogging bottoms and trainers.

Detective sergeant, Jane Hogg, said: “Thankfully no-one was injured during this incident, but it was an alarming and distressing experience for the shopkeeper and we are actively looking to identify the man involved.

“Whilst it was early, we would also like to hear from anyone who was around the general area who might have seen the man making off. A second male was seen outside the store at the time of the incident. This man is described as being white Scottish, 20 years of age and was riding a light coloured bike. This man is a key witness however his identity is unknown.”

The incident followed a number of recent robberies across the UK, including an incident in the West Yorkshire in which a store worker was injured during an attempted armed robbery and a gun-weilding robbery at a One Stop store in County Durham.
