Bestway Wholesale has released a new app that enables cash and carry customers to place their orders more easily.

The Bestway Wholesale app, which is available on both iOS and android, allows customers to create personalised lists and get live delivery updates on any device, at any time.

The new app, which also allows access to the latest products and seasonal offers, barcode-scanning technology and a POR calculator, is accompanied by a website refresh. The app was built by RNF.

Bestway Wholesale head of marketing, Salih Sheikh, said: “We listened to customers, understanding what they do (and don’t) want when it comes to online ordering. We wanted to offer an online experience that wasn’t just in line with wholesale, but that rivalled market leading apps such as Amazon and Ocado – it’s a part of our strategy to utilise digital to improve the shopping experience and service to customers.

“All the customer feedback we received throughout the development and the soft-launch which we just completed, has been used to shape our app to meet customer needs. All a customer has to do now is download the app and sign up online with their existing customer number and they will be ready to order.”

RNF managing director, Rob Mannion, added: “The new apps are yet another example of how Bestway Wholesale is leading the way with mobile technology.

“The ability to communicate with customers via our platform BEAM has proven highly successful for them - optimising sales and creating new income streams - and it’s great to see them taking advantage of it for other divisions.”

  • This is great news but how about speaking to other epos providers about electronic links from our epos systems that have gathered years of sales data.

  • Why isn't there an app available for Best One customers? We can't use this app, yet we are supposed to be the flagship Bestway customers. It makes no sense whatsoever.

  • Don't make me laugh. Have you seen the state of bestone.co.uk? It's a 10 year old website. If they can't even sort a half decent consumer facing website, I doubt they'll have much success with an app. It's a shame really.

  • I meant best-one.co.uk (they don't own the domain without the hyphen in-between Best and One)

  • I hardly think the average booze and bread Best One customer worries about how good the website is.

  • The Best One website is an embarrassment. It's as if Bestway's management are all old technophobes.

The customer arrives on the Best One website, which is obviously aimed at retailers, not customers. They click the tiny shopper area link which takes them to a page where they can't actually view the current promotions. There is no store finder for customers to check your opening times and also means no automatic listing on Google etc. No online engagement on social media. This is basic stuff in 2018 and costs next to nothing in the scheme of things. What this shows is that Bestway are not committed to the Best One brand.

  • Who gets up in the morning and googles Best One to see where their shops are and what promotions are on?

  • I think Bestway has more to worry about with Best One than the state of the Website . The state of the average Best One store is the worrying thing. The presence of Landmark and Booker own brands being one glaring issue.

  • Don't be so daft Brynn, it's not about people getting up in the morning and Googling Best One. It's about people being able to quickly find information about their local store as and when they need it. Simple stuff.

Yes Harry, Bestway has more to worry about but this article is about their app so what better place to mention their online failings.

Having a basic online presence costs peanuts for symbol groups and is important as most shopkeepers have no need to create and update their own website for a single store.

It's amazing how many shops still have no listings online, therefore it's impossible for even regular customers to find accurate opening times, let alone customers unfamiliar with an area looking for a local shop - if your shop doesn't show on Google when someone searches "shop near me" or similar, then you are losing business.

It's actually mind-boggling that something so vital is being ignored by Best One when it's such a low cost facility to introduce.

When we had incorrect opening hours on our symbol's store locator, we were amazed how many customers mentioned it - even regular ones! And that was a few years ago, so customers will be even more likely to look you up online these days.

Unfortunately, I think part of the reason independents find it hard to stay afloat these days is because they're stuck in the past and have no idea about modern trends. It's sad because there are a lot of small changes that can make a big impact but too often people focus on making big changes that have a small impact.

  • Calm down UTS , I only asked a question. Really, how many punters in need of a loaf or a can of dog food go online to find their local shop or check their opening hours? We are talking here about Best One, not people travelling to London from 'Uddersfield to shop at Fortnum's. The current obsessions with an online presence and food to go are wasting a lot of time for retailers who should really know better.
