He wrote an undated letter to 'the manager' at Anne Everton's tiny store on an estate in Battle, East Sussex, to say that he fell over in the store's doorway while he was there on holiday.
He said he didn't believe in all this modern style of suing for minor accidents so if the store would just pay for the repair of his walking stick (photocopy of £75 receipt enclosed) within seven days then that would be the end of the matter. He is 'disabled and of limited means'.
Anne works some 60 hours a week in her store, virtually unaided, and has the CCTV on from before the door is unlocked. Nothing on camera.
We say, pull the other one. Has anyone else encountered a similar scam?
