Since winning the Convenience Retailer of the Year gong at this year’s Convenience Awards, retailer Girish Jeeva (above) has gone from strength to strength, he says.
“Honestly, it was a massive moment for us. To be recognised by such a respected platform made all the hard work worthwhile, especially for the team. It gave us the motivation to keep pushing boundaries and stay ahead of the curve.”
Having taken over a “run-down” Barmulloch premises in 2021, what became Girish’s Premier in Glasgow has consistently been at the cutting edge of tech, a pillar in its local community and a key donator to local charities.
But the work doesn’t seem to have stopped, with no one on the team resting on their laurels, Girish explained. “We recently completed a full upgrade of our self-checkout area, adding faster tills and improved age verification through AI tech,” he said.
“We’ve also expanded our 24-hour delivery service coverage, which is gaining strong traction, particularly with late-night customers. We’re seeing excellent engagement through Snappy Shopper and have also introduced a new loyalty scheme tied to it.”

Girish says the period after the awards in April also saw a sales uplift. “It’s been very positive - sales have increased 31% via delivery and the tech continues to help us manage stock and margins more effectively. We’ve also made some staffing changes to support our growth, and the team’s really stepped up.”
Girish also adds that he’s not far from hitting a target of £100k sales a week. “Hopefully, over the next six months we can achieve this,” he said.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to our customers and industry peers. We’re proof that local convenience retail can thrive with the right mix of tech, trust, and community focus.”
