Spar NI’s annual Blooming Great Summer fundraiser, held in aid of the Marie Curie, charity returned to its stores this weekend.

This year, the retailer - which has partnered with Marie Curie since 2017 - invited shoppers to celebrate with them as they reflected on reaching the milestone of over £1m for the charity at the end of 2025.

Marie Curie provides vital end of life care for thousands across the country, and also celebrated 60 years in Northern Ireland last year.

From 5-7 June, Spar stores across Northern Ireland celebrated with a sea of yellow to fundraise for Marie Curie through a variety of events including in-store tea parties, raffles to win hampers full of local Spar goodies, bakesales, guessing games to win teddies and sweets, as well as voucher giveaways.

Laura Thompson, from Spar NI, said: “We made our Blooming Great Summer events even more of a celebration to say thank you and congratulations to shoppers and Spar team members who made it possible to reach the incredible million pound fundraising milestone.

“We look forward to continuing to fundraise and see our impact go even further for Marie Curie as they continue to provide vital services throughout communities in Northern Ireland.

“Over the years we’ve enjoyed many fun events which have been wholeheartedly supported by our store network, alongside their shoppers, as we know how much their services are needed by families across the country.”

Around 300 Spar stores in Northern Ireland support Marie Curie as their official charity partner, a network of committed retailers who’ve made a huge difference to the services the charity can offer locally.
